freedom is when you walk the quiet corridoor in Changi Airport realising that there is no one around you. For good.

being alone for the first time ever is not really the best thing to hang on the back of your head knowing that there's 6 months to go.
but there's a tinge of happiness in the freedom that follows.
trust me, it is true freedom. freedom that even you will feel afraid of.
but this freedom is power to live the way you want with little external influence.
this freedom gives you the mighty power to open your eyes to the world
and do all the crazy stuff you never would have if kept under the wings of mother hen.

i tell you something, Ann Arbor is a beautiful place.
it is a 'hidden gem' of the US as my friend puts it across.
it is more than just the school revolving around the town but the wonderful architecture of modern and historic times that fascinates
the friendly people that permeates,
the exotic places of interest,
the wonderful snowy and chilly weather that i am slowly adjusting to,
the hidden places just around the neighbourhood that you missed out but is probably the next most significant thing in Ann Arbor,
and of cos, the mighty shopping and retail haven of the US

i dont think i can enjoy this place thoroughly in the 4 months that im here
i dont think i can make enough friends to bring back home for all the people who are expecting, for some weird reasons i cannot contemplate - photos of parties fascinate them perhaps with reference to their locked-down situation in sunny Singapore.
i dont think i can explore enough of this place and learn about the greatness of Ann Arbor and the USA -
i am already taking an elective Music & Islam that is held in the bell tower of UMich,
taking a core module that is a team design project that is much more handson than in any Singapore's monotonous education concept,
staying in an international house with lots of different kinds of people (though i have yet to really get to know them),
applied for a job in the law library that i tell you is a jaw dropping gorgeous building of any kind. an absolute fusion of modern glassy architecture and medieval churchy cathedral-like architecture,
heading to ski trip with a group of transfer students,
attempting to secure tickets for the graduation ceremony come summer where the michigan stadium will be fully filled and celebrities grace the event,
attending the NY philharmonic concert in Hall Auditorium, one of the most acoustically designed auditoriums in the world, right in UM,
visit chicago, visit at least 1 lighthouse along the Great Lakes of Michigan, visit detroit, Niagara Falls, New York, MIT in Boston, Toronto and the list just goes on and on!
i dont think i can learn enough about cooking while im here although i am expediting the process and learning on the job right now,
i dont think i can learn enough about about being independent though this has been a pretty steep learning curve already,
i dont think i can ever learn enough while im here.
but i dont think i can ever, ever go back the same person with the same amount of value again

i think this is the most wonderful thing that NTU could never give me, not that it is incapable but being so comfortable in Singapore, NTU has never been able to be the spark in the life for me to step out and scour all its resources to make learning more fun and enriching. but i am learning it here, and im learning to take it back and utilise what NTU offers and even even even with the slightest tinge of guilt, i admit that there will be something NTU and Singapore can offer. and when this fun and crazy journey ends, i will go back to Singapore feeling great and even greater to start another new journey like this.

freedom.
