"its not how you start but how you end."
me and jy was back in zhss for e first time prolly in a year or so visiting teachers, decided to do so cause i had a block leave and man, no one wnana go overseas, so i might as well do sth that i'd been wanting to do for quite awhile. anyways i should be grounded for teachers day so might as well celebrate it earlier! sheesh. i tell ya the feeling of being back is phenomenal. its undescribable how the teachers welcome you and tell you how much they miss you and ur group of ppl who turned the school around.
guess wad, we met mdm lau first, though having evaded her quite successfully and having a seat at the stone tables outside commonroom. she came over, recognising me, and den talked to us for quite awhile further elaborating about e deteriorating discipline of the school. n its not e beginning of an annhilation of the zhss i knew. mr lim came around and was super surprised to see e both of us when he came out of the teachers' room. welcomed us warmly and chat with us prolly e longest. wells, he had been e strictest and most feared shit we faced in zhss, but man, the feeling to talk to him now is much different. we laughed, we chat and we understood each other. told us many stuff about the school, and the most important, or i should say most touching thing was to hear that our batch is still sorely missed in zhss. never had a batch done so well in english in our 94 years of history, though we failed to pip the batch few years before in terms of overall o levels performance. he said our batch was mrs chang's last glory. i will never forget that. mrs seah den came around, my great sec1/2 teacher simply cause my sec1/2 class was e best i ever had. she told us mr lim told her we were back, and the both of them talked about our e7 (sec1/2) class. it was even more heartening to realise that mr lim, her and other teachers cannot forget the impression e7 left in them, the unity and simply e variety of talents and e cohesion we had. until today, she says e teachers still talk about our class and lament the absense of such a class in many years! gosh, im so honoured. wad's more, she talked about mrs chang and how she was asked by mrs chang to stretch our class to get us to our maximum potential. i cant wait to tell the rest i tell you. though i haf only spoke to mrs chang on several occasions, i believe she remembers me and i haf this urge to tell her, we did it, and we did it with her warmness, her care, her motherly self. that is something zh lacked when she left, and though we claimed a lack of school spirit when we batch was sitll around, we cannot ignore the fact that many of us would still hold zhss as the stronghold of our fondest memories which even university, ns, or jc cannot replicate or better. i haf an urge to tell mrs chang where-ever she is now about how successful e class of e7 is, how wonderful and mature e individuals became, how we really developed from a class of T-score 240+ avg to 20 odd 4/3A students with outstanding leadership capabilities, all from her vision and care. equally, i cant forget this class for the many other firsts we created, sweeping academic prizes, eca awards to things such as being e really first class to haf a chalet in e midst of school and yes, full attendance for the chalet. today, many of us are still in close contact and that speaks more than anything the success of our story. and it will not end, we will have chapters and chapters to fill, stories and stories of individuals to tell, gathering after gatherings to have. we made it happen, no one else could, and it will stay the same way.
it was so great to be back. the other teachers we met were ms tan(bio), weiyen, mrs tobias, ms yam while we played soccer with the upper and lower secondary kids enjoying, like what jy said, what we did best in sec sch. i cant help to feel this telling sign to make me return to zhss as a teacher, to 'pick up the pieces of the rather dismantled' school. i should really consider it, perhaps after i ORD i could take half a year off to teach in zhss. it would be great interacting with the new generation, to shape them, and to give them a memory that zhss left on me. to realise another e7 for them to savour.
